Cowboys and Eli's

Up and at them!

I promised JD that if he was good we'd have a big day full of outdoor fun today. H. was home from work and off for the day so a nap on the couch was in order before making a big breakfast to start the day off all proper like. After breakfast the pups and I were off to the trail.

Fall has fallen.

Just last week the brown along the edge of the leaf covered trail was green. The recent frost must have killed off the green as the trail has settled fully into autumn drab.

The tools.

The original plan was to spend a few hours adding a new section of trail to the back, then ride, then hang out with the commune for drinks and dinner.

Hot action hoe in action.

We've been enjoying a fantastic stretch of fall weather recently and I decided to take advantage of it to get some much needed trail work done. The recent frost having all but removed most of the underbrush allowed for pretty easy clearing and trail tread shaping. The loamy soil of the back allows for easy trail cutting. IMBA would be proud.

The pups checking the trail for flow.

Dish the trail monitor.

Plans were going along swimmingly until this guy showed up.

Eli dropped by to pick up his hitch mounted bike rack after about 3 years. He's finally gotten a better than a Brougham towing vehicle worthy of such a monstrous 4 bike rack. He brought Cowboy and Kuma with him and he was down for a quick tour of the property. That is after we drained some Hoptoberfest that he brought along.

Bike touring with the pups.

H. leading Cowboy to the lake.

The pups playing post swim.

We let the pups swim and fetch sticks in the lake before hiking the newly cut and then existing trail. A brief trip down to show Eli the waterfall then we all headed back to the barn. Plans turned to include Eli and the slumlords which opened up a bit of time to be killed. So we horsed around for a bit. Literally.

Pups and riders.

It was a Sunday stuffed full with nearly a three day's weekend worth of fun. JD, Dish and H. are sacked out on the couch next to me after playing hard all day. Very reminiscent of the old Dog Island days. There's no place like home.
