6 Hours

6 hours of Lock 4 was this past Saturday. The day was perfect for a race. Sunny and warm, then windy and cool, overcast windy and cool, then rain at the awards. Couldn't have timed that more perfectly.

I got there early and met up with 8Ball and Skip and claimed some land beneath the acorn tree. Shawn and Gabi showed up soon, as did Adam D. and once we found each other, we established the base camp for the teams.

Skip was number 1 for the day.

Ruthie and her TallGirl.

The GQ Mod Squad.

Ruthie's magic socks.

The Dynamic Duo pre-race meeting.

The Dorfer Dance.

It wasn't long before we were called into action for race support. This poor fellow broke his seatpost right at the start. What a sucky way to start and end a race. Or was it...

MOAB mechanic Adam D. sprang into action.

A quick consultation and exam of the situation.

The begins working on the solution.

While Adam chipped away at the broken carbon post remaining in the seattube, I pulled his saddle off his seatpost so the racer could get back into the race. A few minutes lost, but not out of the game, and the racer was soon back off and out to race with a swank suspension seatpost borrowed from Adam.

Parts bike?

It wasn't long before another casualty was had. Skip came in with a broken rail on his saddle. At first he was exuberant to have an excuse to stop, but I had other plans. Our seatposts being the same diameter, I loaned out my post and saddle so Skip would have, er... could continue on in the race.

There goes my saddle!

Thus began the race of the seat posts. Would Adam's be the victor for the day or would mine bravely soldier on and take the W? We won't know until the results are posted. (accidental pun, but pretty funny).  Also out on the course were my 18t boone ti cog, co2, and inflator. It was supply meet demand kinda day.

StevieMac and Bryan off on another lap.

Steven "Motorman" Myers ripping a lap.

Eric Boarman, 18t cog runner.

Shawn out on his cross bike for a lap.

ScraffyZ, the D.P. Award winner for the day.

Scotty and the Monsters.

Ruthie out crushing another lap.

Kurt Page, dude is a monster and the Clyde class winner.

KRS1 ran a half marathon in the morning, then came out to race.

No Sleep Mike raced after a night of working with another night to go.

Swapping to the Voodoo.

RideForReading's Mathew Portell.

The Legend. Stanley Wills.

Kurt Page, the machine.

Tall boy on the tallboy.

Go Jeffy!

Jeffy and Amy.

JD chilled with his bone while I cooked 3lbs of Idaho Reds with sea salt for the racers. Cramps were pretty rampant for the day, the potatoes and their potassium goodness coated in sea salt, helped our friends fight off hunger and cramps.

Duo Swap.

The Dorfer.

Bryan, aka Humpty, overcame a stripped crank and still finished strong.

Eric B. back out for more.

Adam leads SuperD out from the a quick pit stop.

Adam D. and the McConnells.

Adam and Dave "Bling Bling" Holmes.

Adam rocking the two-sixer (his two-niner was at home).

Clyde Podium. Kurt Page #1.

Co-ed Duo Podium. Steven and Ruthie Myers #3.

It was weird not being out in the race, but a unique and fun day helping and supporting friends and fellow racers. Everybody seemed to do well and battled their demons to continue to fight to the very end. Congrats everyone! We also were all able to pack up and beat the rain. Score.

Thanks to everyone who came out, raced, and hung around. It was a fun day. Thanks to Steven and Ruthie for spoiling me and buying my dinner.

Glad you had such a great day for the race. I had planned on making the trip down there, but my neck/back was not up to it.

I will keep lock 4 on my radar for races since it is not that far away.
